Dear friends,

Golden Threads / Eagle Condor Council supports Indigenous lifeways, leadership, and community well-being through long-term relationship building. This resilient system helps us respond in urgent times of need. Today, we are asking for immediate financial assistance following a tragic accident affecting the community of Japu in Q'eros, Peru. Multiple community members lost their lives, including the parents of four children. Many others were seriously injured, with several currently receiving costly emergency care in Cusco. Tragically, a few of them are in critical condition. Many family members have taken up temporary residence in Cusco to be with injured loved ones, creating immense emotional and financial strain. Golden Threads / Eagle Condor Council Threads over the years have built a trusted relationship with community leaders in Q’ueros. Among them are Victor Chura Quispe and his wife, Celia Apaza. Victor and Celia have been working with our organization for more than a decade, co-facilitating our Peru pilgrimages, and were our partners in providing supply aid during the pandemic. We are working together once again to support relief efforts to soften the blow of this significant tragedy. In the Andean traditions, there is a sacred principle known as Ayni — reciprocity, mutual care, and responsibility to one another. We invite our wider community to walk with us in that spirit now.

• Emergency medications and coverage for medical-related expenses for the injured

• Food, diapers, clothing, and essential care items

• Direct support for mothers and children grappling with this sudden loss

• Transportation, lodging, and food for families temporarily displaced while the injured are hospitalized
